Midnight in the Naked City released 28th November from Pete Thomas

Go for a naughty night out of superb tunes, as cool
as the midnight air on your bare skin, with one of
our most unsung jazz-blues talents

World class saxophonist, Pete Thomas recalls the sexy, sleazy world of 1940s basement bars and notorious speakeasies on his new album ‘Midnight in the Naked City’ – released Nov 28th through Proper Distribution

Thomas harnesses the rebellious spirit the saxophone was once synonymous with, to evoke the glory days of bluesy jazz playing over 13 tracks. The music snakes its way into your consciousness with a heady mix of romanticism, sensuality and lustiness as Thomas takes you on night out you won’t forget.
Well respected as a jazz musician, Pete Thomas has featured with the Fats Domino band, Thad Jones Orchestra, Loose Tubes, Slim Gaillard, Jimmy Witherspoon, Jon Hendricks and Laverne Baker. As a pop and rock sideman he has recorded with Joe Jackson, Richard Thompson, REM and Elton John to name but a few. More info: www.petethomas.co.ukSays Pete, “Without trying to be deliberately “retro” I still wanted to get the saxophone back to its jazz and blues roots as a somewhat “naughty” instrument. My main aim with the saxophone has always been to delve deeply into its sound. I noticed that the great players I am inspired by don’t have to play 1000 notes a minute, but can express everything in just a handful of notes. I aspire to using as wide a palette of sound colours as possible, even find some as yet undiscovered, rather than trying to impress with a fast fingering technique or restrict myself to any one recognisable style.”
On this album Pete is accompanied by some great musicians including Richard Thompson, Steve Rose, Malcolm Creese, Roy Dodds, Robin Bibi and Geraint Watkins.
Revenue from this album is being donated to charity. Since the release of his last album, Mr Lucky, Pete has raised over £50,000 from sales of CDs, sheet music and his own design of saxophone mouthpieces, for various charities including APEC, LeukemiaBusters, and the Red Cross. Currently all fundraising is helping disabled musicians via Wall of Sounds, a collaboration between Manchester based club Band on the Wall and Brighter Sounds.

Pete Thomas delivers an unabashed , R & B tinged love letter… this is meat and potatoes, served with a hot sauce. Clive Davis (Sunday Times review of Mr Lucky) Thomas plays an impressive growling saxophone that has a humourous, teasing air of menace. Mary Ellison (Jazz Express) Thomas is a demonic player, abrasive and articulate. Russell Lack (The Wire)
